Healthy Tips to Fight Christmas Holiday Stress

The Christmas holidays are a wonderful time of year to spend with family, eat delicious food, and engage in fun and festivities. However, on the other side of that can be the stress of travelling, shopping, cooking, and even spending too much time with family. So in case the holiday season isn’t all joy, cheer, and laughter, and you need some help dealing with the not-so-fun aspects, consider these helpful tips to get you through the end of the year.

  •        Get out and enjoy some exercise. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress as it burns off hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline and helps produce mood-enhancing endorphins.  Try going for a walk after dinner as the fresh air and exercise will lift your mood and make you feel better.
  •      Get plenty of sleep.
  •        Breath - When we’re stressed our heart beat increases and our breathing shallows, it’s all part of the fight or flight reaction.  Work on reversing this process and take time to breathe deeply. Breathe in deeply through your nose, hold for 15 or 20 seconds and then breathe slowly out through your mouth, repeat for a few minutes to instantly help reduce stressful feelings
  •      Go see a movie.
  •      Getting out in the fresh air will improve mood and energy.
  •     Also think of taking a vitamin D supplement.
  •      Curl up with a good book in a quiet space
  •       Enjoy an Epson salts bath which has magnesium that will help with your tired, achy muscles.
  •            Book a facial / body massage or a session of reflexology.
