Skinceutical Triple Lipid Restore

SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2  to their ‘Correct’ portfolio. Triple Lipid is a unique anti-ageing lipid replenishment cream which was specifically developed to address the challenges of treating accelerated ageing and skin barrier repair. It is the first and only cosmeceutical product to combine a proprietary ratio of lipids in a maximised concentration of 2% ceramides, 4% cholesterol and 2% omega-fatty acids, which play key roles in the repair of both aged and dry skin. The culmination of two years of SkinCeuticals clinical research and R&D, this specialised ingredient combination is designed to correct and nourish skin, by replenishing the essential skin lipid ratio, as well as restoring natural hydration and skin barrier function. The result: skin has a comfortably-replenished fullness, with a healthy radiance, suppleness, and youthful smoothness.

Triple Lipid was created to fill a unique gap in the cosmeceutical skincare market. As we age, lipid secretion to the stratum corneum and metabolic rate naturally declines, impacting barrier function and repair cycles and leading to signs of accelerated aging such as drier skin, tightness, loss of firmness, rough texture and loss of radiance. Lipidomic studies have identified the optimal lipid ratios required for barrier repair, which are different for aged skin (which is cholesterol-deficient) versus dry skin (which lacks ceramide 1), but these were difficult to stabilise in a topical form. Triple Lipid is the first product to effectively harness the power of potent lipid combinations, with a 4% cholesterol-dominant ratio – specifically for aging skin – alongside a 2% concentration of both ceramides and fatty acids. Delivered in a lightweight and fast-absorbing texture, this supple cream is proven to stimulate lipid replenishment, barrier protection, hydration and repair in aging or dry skin. In terms of specific skin conditions, Triple Lipid can be used to effectively address the symptoms associated with either chronologically aged, or excessively dry skin- including disrupted barrier function, dryness, loss of firmness, inflammation or redness, and roughness.

Triple Lipid is the first and only cholesterol-dominant lipid correction cream available on the market and is the culmination of over two years of extensive research, working alongside leading experts like Dr Peter Elias. SkinCeuticals identified a market need, in that patients with chronologically aged or excessively dry skin were often given ceramide-dominant treatments which didn’t truly address their skin symptoms and restore lost hydration, firmness and barrier function. This trend was due to the majority of ‘dry skin’ studies being conducted patients with conditions like atopic dermatitis, which skewed the results profile towards a ceramide deficiency. In fact, studies have shown that chronologically aged skin exhibits a different lipid depletion profile vs dry skin – the former lacks cholesterol, whereas the latter lacks ceramides. SkinCeuticals worked with Dr Peter Elias, who had identified that topical application of the three key skin lipids (ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids) in a specific, optimised ratio lead to accelerated barrier recovery. This is the foundation of Triple Lipid’s unique cholesterol dominant formulation of 2% ceramides, 4% cholesterol and 2% fatty acids. For the first time, patients with chronologically aged skin or excessively dry skin can receive a targeted, bespoke treatment which has been designed and clinically proven to effectively replenish the specific lipid balance of skin for a functional skin barrier and treatment of aging symptoms.

The difference of Triple Lipid can be felt from the first application, with data showing a significant 40% improvement in skin texture and smoothness and 18% improvement in pore appearance. An 8-week clinical study demonstrated statistically significant improvements in the key signs of accelerated aging, such as skin clarity, evenness, radiance, smoothness, laxity, and pore appearance (p<0.05).1

Triple Lipid Restore is proven to have three key effects:

1.       Refilling Essential Skin Lipids – TLR242 more than doubled levels of ceramides (57%) and cholesterol (52%), and increased triglycerides by 13% after 8 weeks

2.       Restore External Barrier – There was a 39% improvement in hydration after just 24 hours, with 8x faster barrier recovery following tape stripping on treated versus untreated site

3.       Support Natural Repair – A 2x increase in mature versus immature corneoctyes (stratum corneum cells), signifying improved barrier quality and reduced susceptibility to external aggressors

Triple Lipid Restore is intended as part of a daily treatment regimen for patients with chronically aged or intrinsically dry skin – the results of the clinical trial showed statistically significant results within the 8-week time frame which are predicted to continue and enhance as patients continue with product use over a longer time period.

As with any cosmeceutical product, if patients stop using the treatment the skin will eventually revert back to baseline although there is no clinical data as to the time frame for this with TLR242 treatment. Triple Lipid Restore is intended as part of a daily treatment regimen for patients with chronically aged or intrinsically dry skin – the results of the clinical trial showed statistically significant results within the 8-week time frame which are predicted to continue and enhance as patients continue with product use over a longer time period.
