Rejuvapen Micro-Needling

Micro needling is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure utilising non-surgical techniques that uses a powered device operated by hand to create tiny channels into the skin to trigger the creation of elastin and collagen through the body’s natural healing process. The intended goal is to improve the texture of the skin by minimising fine lines and wrinkles. In short, this process naturally reduces the signs of ageing.

Rejuvapen Micro-Needling

Micro Needle Basics The Rejuvapen is an ideal choice for micro needling because it utilizes a disposable needle tip cartridge with twelve micro needles. This allows the device to be safely operated with no risk of cross infection because the needle tips are used only once then disposed of.
Benefits of the Rejuvapen Micro Needle

In addition, the Rejuvapen Micro Needle uses a beveled tip designed with a medical grade HEPA filter to eliminate suction and clogging while blocking airborne blood pathogens. The scalloped edge minimizes surface tension and shortens the amount of time the needles need to make effective contact with the skin. This drastically diminishes any discomfort that may be associated with micro-needling. The Rejuvapen Micro Needle also has two opposing vents that help prevent the backflow of bodily fluids into the device and removes the possibility of any cross contamination.
Microneedling versus laser.

Micro Needle vs. Derma Rollers

The Micro Needle is superior to older derma rollers, also known as micro rollers that were introduced to the public in the late nineties. These devices use a spike-like roll that is applied to the patient’s face by hand. They are more painful and less precise when they needle the skin to stimulate the healing process in order to reverse ageing. Unlike these derma rollers, the needles of the Rejuvapen pierce the skin at a controlled depth and speed that minimises damage to the skin and even acts like an infusion device. The device allows practitioners to add a blend of healthy ingredients such as vitamins and minerals that are delivered to the skin during the process and are absorbed at a rate at least 100 more effective than doing so by hand.

Rejuvapen Micro-Needling FAQ

What is the Rejuvapen Micro Needle Used to Treat?
Due to its advanced technology, the Rejuvapen Micro Needle can also be used to treat a range of other skin conditions including but not limited to:

Diminishing the hyperpigmentation of skin, i.e. redness, puffiness, etc.
The improvement in the appearance of acne pock marks
The improvement in the appearance of stretch marks
Almost anywhere on the skin that is structurally weak or there are imperfections on the entire face, neck, arms, abdomen, hands or legs

What are Micro Needle Side Effects and Dangers?

The dangers of having a trained expert apply a Micro Needle treatment are minimal. Some clients experience redness in the skin that can last for up to five days, but patients are allowed to wear makeup after one day in order to hide this. Other clients may experience some light burning, mild flaking and tightness. Clients may notice a significant difference in the texture of the skin within a couple of days to weeks. During the treatment, patients describe the process as feeling like tiny pin pricks that not pleasant but tolerable on the whole.

How Many Micro Needle Treatments do I Need to See Results?

The Rejuvapen Micro Needle technique is similar to the technology of a Fraxel laser that utilises an intense thermal mechanism on the skin but at a much lower price. Just as these lasers take a series of treatments in order to see the best results, so does the Micro Needle. The average patient can expect anywhere from three to six sessions depending on their needs. Once the final results are achieved on a client, we usually recommend they return for one to two sessions a year to ensure the results last.

After Care advice for The Rejuvapen micro needling system.

1. Apply a complex repair cream such as Dermaceutic K ceutic cream to the treatment area. This may be used day and night – it has terrific healing properties. It also has a factor 50 SPF.
2. For exposed skin apply a total sun block every day. Mineral SPF such as Sheer SPF by Skinceutical or Mineral based Dermaceutic Sun Ceutic SPF50 is best for the first week post treatment. Dermaceutic K ceutic is also good to protect and soothe.
3. The treatment may cause erythema (redness), swelling or a burning sensation, but this will disappear within a few hours.
4. You can use an over the counter 1% hydrocortisone cream to calm any excess irritation that may occur.
5. Clean the skin with wet cotton wool the first night after the treatment. You may like to use a clean wet cold face cloth to soothe. Ice cube in damp cotton also cools. Only do this if the skin redness/inflammation is excessive as we have created a certain level of inflammation for the purpose of collagen induction.Use Skinceutcal Hydrating B5 Gel or Phyto corrective mask to hydrate
6. At night apply Skinceutical Resveratrol / Kceutic or Panthenol Ceutic Nourishing Restoring Ointment. Do not pick or scratch the treated area. Allow to heal.
7. Do not wear makeup for at least 48 hours.
8. Avoid this treatment close to a big event.

What to expect -

Rejuvapen is well tolerated by patients but, dryness, scaling, redness and swelling may be seen after treatment, lasting for up to 3 days or longer, depending on the depth of penetration of the needles. The micro-incisions created during micro needling will close approximately 3-5 minutes after the treatment, resulting in a low risk of infection. Generally the treated areas recover rapidly from skin needling. However there are occasional side effects, which include;
1. Skin infection with bacteria (rare) or herpes simplex virus (cold sores).
2. Milia and mild acne flares.

After micro needling the course of recovery follows a typical pattern;
•Day 1. Erythema and redness (comparable to moderate sunburn) some minor swelling. Some minor pin point bleeding (dependent upon needle depth).
•Day 2. Erythema and swelling begin to subside.
•Day 3. Erythema and swelling subsides; skin takes on a pink colour.
Days 1-3 skin will be very dry and tight, moderate skin flaking is normal. Drink plenty of fluids & keep skin well hydrated and protected .

Micro-Needling

The micro-needling treatment uses a device that vertically penetrates the skin. This subdermal penetration helps to enhance the treatment by increasing the absorption of products like, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid.

Improves, acne scars.
Helps to reduce pore size
Reduces the appearance of stretch marks
Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Can help tighten, lift, and rejuvenate the skin

The automated micro-needling device (about the size of a large marker) uses a sterile and disposable needle tip to vertically penetrate the skin.

Anywhere from 2-6 treatments may be needed.

What is micro-needling?

Micro-needling is a simple procedure that uses fine needles to break down old scar tissue and stimulate new collagen production. Creating new collagen leads to the formation of new, healthier skin tissue.

How does micro-needling work?

  • What happens during the treatment?
  • Micro-needling begins by cleaning and numbing the skin. The micro-needling device is then used to produce thousands of micro-punctures in the skin. Vitamin-C serum or hyaluronic acid is applied directly after the treatment to enhance skin renewal and collagen growth.
  • What are the post-treatment effects of micro-needling?
  • You will experience some redness and mild swelling for two to four days. You may even notice a slight bruising or several tiny blood spots; these will disappear within 24 to 48 hours.

*Results may vary from client to client.

L'ascorbic acid is the gold standard form of Vitamin C

L'ascorbic acid is the gold standard form of Vitamin C. It is the only form of Vitamin C that the skin readily uses for daily protection and repair and is 100% bioavailable in the skin while other forms of Vitamin C are not. It is important in your  daily anti-ageing skin care arsenal as it enhances the protective properties of sunscreen as well as the results of other corrective products and procedures. This makes l-ascorbic acid based antioxidants not only an ideal daily preventative but also an effective topical product for enhancing the results of other anti-ageing treatments.

SkinCeuticals have recently  testing CE Ferulic Serum after non-ablative laser treatments with documented improved healing times, less redness and post-laser swelling along with more efficient migration of excess melanin to the skin surface for notable improvement of discoloration. This ultimately led to Dr. Waibel testing Skinceuticals CE Ferulic Serum after a fractional ablative laser treatment that demonstrated a decrease in redness, swelling and healing time along with the activation of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) Lasers Surg Med. Mar 2016 .

Microneedling and l-ascorbic acid

Microneedling is seeing increased popularity in recent years but has been around  for quite some time. Previous microneedling devices were roller-based tools that required a technician to control the depth of penetration by adjusting pressure while rolling the device across the face. Newer versions are a pen device with pre-set depth options that once selected, control the depth of penetration across the entire face which provides a more even treatment. These treatments utilise serum-based products throughout to assist in the  “glide” of the pen across the skin as well as calming irritation and stimulating the repair process.

Many of the microneedling manufacturers sell these serums with their devices which typically include a hyaluronic acid/peptide based serum, a botanical calming serum to be used during and after the microneedling treatments.  Microneedling  creates micro-channels in the skin that readily absorb products immediately after the treatment, microneedling also creates an opportunity for increased absorption and improved healing and results. Therefore, it is a good opportunity to apply an l-ascorbic acid based serum to promote healing and repair. An  additional  important quality for any product that is used with or immediately after micro needling is that it be a lightweight serum that does not contain silicone, parabens or other ingredients that can enter the micro channels and solidify in the skin. This can lead to the formation of granulomas and has been documented in one case in which 2 patients were treated with the same Vitamin C based product after micro needling http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24258303.

Microneedling is a great anti-ageing alternative to the downtime of lasers and desirable results can be seen with the addition of proven products with the treatment.

As  L-ascorbic acid based antioxidant serums can be used for daily anti-ageing skincare they continue to be the gold standard of anti-ageing prevention and post-procedure correction.
