Cold weather heating etc can play havoc with your skin.
.) Apply lipid-rich emollients liberally (you might have to repeat this several times during the day, if your skin is very dry). One of the best times to apply a moisturiser is when your skin is still damp from washing your face or body. This locks in moisture and reduces further water evaporation. Moisturisers containing urea, ceramides and/or hyaluronic acid will benefit dry skin. However, be sure to avoid lipid-rich moisturisers if you suffer with any breakouts, even if your skin might feel dry!
.) Avoid coarse sponges, abrasive scrubs and harsh face cloths, avoid over exfoliating your skin. Nobody needs to do a daily exfoliation.
.) Avoid prolonged periods outdoors if the air is very cold and/or windy
.) Wear soft, non-wooly clothing if the skin on your body is dry
.) Avoid the use of soap and other harmful foaming cleansers. Instead use emollient face cleansers or facial cleansing oils to wash your face
.) When washing your face, use lukewarm water only (avoid hot water or cold water)
.) Add a good quality fish oil supplement to your diet.
.) Apply some warm organic coconut oil or sesame seed oil all over your body/ and hair once a week – massage well in to the skin – leave for 10/15 minutes – wrap in a dark coloured dressing gown and shower after as normal. Please take care to stand on a towel when applying the oil to avoid risk of slipping.( work shampoo in to hair before wetting hair to absorb oil then wash as normal.
