A good spray tan application can last five to seven days and will stay visibly rich and natural for the first four/five days.
So if you’re travelling to your warm destination two or three days before the wedding, the spray tan can be kept glowing with a little maintenance.
Before you book in for the actual tan prior to travelling, have a trial to find the perfect shade for you. A trial for your tan is as important as a makeup trial and also can help the makeup trial. With brands such as Bronze leaf which is a very nice organic tan you now have a variety of colours to choose from. A good tanning therapist will have a discussion about the look you want, and the beauty of the tanning test is that you can then gauge the colour daily. I recommend you try your wedding dress on 48 hours after the tan, and you can then see what time frame you need the spray tan for the wedding. Remember to shower at least twice after the tan application to ensure that there is no residue of excess tan on the skin. Do not apply moisturizer on the tanned skin prior to trying your wedding dress. (This is to ensure that there is no chance of getting even a tiny discolouration on your wedding dress)
When you’re at your wedding destination, be careful not to ruin your tan. Avoid the pool, sun tan oil and hot water.
Apply a rich nourishing moisturiser every day as this helps keep the tan at its best and also stops dehydration by keeping the colour and skin nourished. Self-tanning products.
If you are travelling abroad a week or so before the wedding day, take tanning into your own hands - Take a self tan that you have tried before that suits your skin colour. Remember if you are naturally pale – your wedding day is not the time to decide you want a mahogany bronzed look. Try Bronze leaf Gradual tan which you can apply daily/ or every second day, or you could use a Bronze leaf Spray mist tan that you use with a glove for a smooth & even application. St Tropez is a good band also.
With all sprays don't forget to moisturise the feet, back of heels, elbows, hands and wrists first. Gently dab around the wrists, ankles and feet with a dry flannel or towel after applying to avoid the colour clinging to deeply to these areas. Also wet wipe the palms and soles of the feet when completed. Also remember not to wear good underwear or good pale-coloured clothes when applying fake tan , once the tan has taken and you have showered after the recommended time required to develop you can wear what you like.( Synthetic fabrics absorb fake tan when worn directly after application)
If you are new to using tan start with a gradual tanner, which you can start to apply a couple of days before your wedding. Gradual tans don't usually contain a guide colour so apply with care like a body lotion. Areas to be mindful of are around the ankles and wrists. I recommend gently smoothing the cream around these delicate areas with a large bronzer brush, rather than rubbing it on too much.
Whatever tanning choice you make, maintenance of the tan when abroad is essential. Unfortunately this means avoiding the sea and pool. The water & chlorine will bleach off your colour.
Keep your showers cool and pat dry the skin rather than rubbing when drying.
Sun exposure and insect repellent can also remove the tan. When you sweat in the sun this removes the tan.
Moisturise well on the run up to the wedding, on your wedding day apply very little moisturizer.
