Fake Tan Q & A

How does spray tanning work?
Your body is sprayed with a solution that contains a certain percentage of DHA (DiHydroxyAcetone), a colourless sugar which reacts with the Amino acids in the dead layers of your skin. Over several hours the skin turns a natural golden brown working with your individual skin tone. The longer you leave it on the darker it goes.
How long does a spray tan last?
Your body constantly sheds dead skin cells. This is why natural sun tans fade over a few days. Spray tanning only affects the outer skin layer, so again, as your skin cells are naturally shed, the spray tan will fade. Your tan should last 5-7 days, but longer if you look after your skin by moisturising every day and avoid very hot showers. Try to avoid baths and swimming pools. Keep the water cooler than usual.Do not rub when drying with a towel after showering.
Is spray tanning safe?
Spray tanning is now the only way to tan safely. Your skin is not exposed to any harmful UV rays that cause damage.
Can anyone have a spray tan?
Yes almost certainly. If your skin is particularly sensitive then I suggest a patch test.
What preparation do I need to do?
Any waxing or shaving should be done at least 24 hours before the treatment. On the day of the tan have a gentle exfoliation and avoid any body lotion or moisturiser. You can remove deodorant and make up just before the tan and wear something loose fitting, do not wear good under wear.
What should I wear for my spray tan?
You can wear as much or as little as you like. For women, a dark bikini or dark bra and knickers/g-string. However, you are perfectly welcome to have your tan topless. Gents can wear briefs, trunks or disposables.
