How can I improve my skin?
Diet
It is important to remember that a well-balanced, varied diet is essential. There should be as much fresh food as possible and avoid anything processed. Fat was once considered the devil to health but lots of recent research suggests that sugar is the real enemy within our diets – both from a skin perspective and health wise. Excessive amounts of sugar causes accelerated skin ageing and creepiness on the skin, plus encourages congestion and subsequent breakouts. Some fat is important for a radiant complexion. We need essential fatty acids, in particular Omega 3 and 6, to help regulate our skin cell.. Sources of good fats for the skin include avocado, walnuts, seeds and salmon. An oral supplement is an assurance that you get sufficient levels.
Lifestyle
There is no doubt that lifestyle contributes to how our skin looks. If you fly alot – your skin is more prone to dehydration, flying at very high altitudes causes the skin to age quicker. We know that too much sun, alcohol, caffeine or cigarettes show up on our skin relatively quickly. As we get older, the effects show more easily and quickly. Sleep is the time for skin cell regeneration. Not getting adequate sleep limits the amount of cellular repair that takes place and may lead to dullness. Alcohol and caffeine both dehydrate the skin and dehydration is one of the biggest external causes of skin ageing, in particular the superficial lines and wrinkles that appear on the surface of the skin. As well as drinking plenty of water to combat this, it’s vital to limit the amount of free radical damage our skin is exposed to. The sun is probably the biggest cause of such damage and the best way to counteract this is through applying a daily broad spectrum SPF every day of the year. I also recommend the use of antioxidants, for example Vitamin C and Vitamin E, both applied to the skin and taken orally. Resveratrol is another very effective night time topical antioxidant. If you are prone to regular breakouts try Viridian Clear Skin Supplements, which are available at your Health Store. This supplement is packed full of skin healing nutrients. Take with some omega 3 supplements to improve skin healing.
Treatments & Products
Which products and treatments are good for your skin? There is a lot of competition on the market with lots of claims re results. We all have our own unique skin type so our requirements will vary. We customise and tailor product and treatments to suit the individual. Our Staff are highly trained so understand skin and the needs of particular skin types. Cleaning your skin properly every day is essential even if you do not wear makeup as we are exposed to lots of dirt and grime in the air which will dull your skin and block pores. Cleaning skin immediately after exercising is very important. As we age our cell turnover slows so exfoliation in some form is essential for removing the dead skin cells that sit on the surface of the skin. Unless these dead cells are removed, most products applied on top of the skin will be unable to absorb.
Professional salon treatments - I will always recommend Jet peels and chemical peels over microdermabrasion for the typical European skin as I feel these are less aggressive when done correctly. LED light therapy has fantastic results on all skin types, as it heals, brightens along with antiageing benefits for all skin types.
Medical Grade skin care that has the ability to penetrate through the skin surface, are more effective than you’re typical over the counter product line. Cosmoceuticals is a word very often used to describe these skin care lines.Skinceutical is one we are very familiar with and see fantastic results with.
Interestingly Eminence the 100% Organic skincare line we carry now have some cosmeceutical products within their range which goes to prove that Nature gives us all we need!
